Parade Day in Front of Fred’s Diner

Fred's Diner

This past weekend was Grayslake Days in our community. They had a festival that had various events and entertainment. Saturday night was a parade down the main street that is the historical part of our town. It seemed that half the town was in the parade (my husband and son included) and the other half was watching. I was suprised at the number of people. I took the opportunity to have a seat (which just happened to be literally on the street) and draw the scene in front of me.

Fred’s Diner is a great place. It is your typical authentic retro diner with a sassy husky voiced waitress included. You walk into this long narrow “joint” that on one side it the booths for seating lined along the wall and the other is the counter seating and grill. It’s a lot of fun to sit and just watch the people which of course are all regulars. I have done a little sketching there in the past. I may just have to go and hang with a cup of coffee and my sketchbook again sometime soon.

  1. Lovely sketch – and plenty to observe in such a busy place. Fred’s Diner sounds a great place to spend an hour or two 🙂
